You sneak into my room.
I wouldn’t have invited you, and I think you know it.
Oblivious, I continue my evening.
Until that last moment before I slip into unconsciousness…
There I lay, slowly drifting into darkness, on the precipice of letting go…
And then I hear you. Softly, whispering in my ear… Just as quickly, you are gone.
I resolve not to move.
I’m sure you’re there, waiting for me.
Yet I try to sleep, knowing sleep will bring no safety.
I hear you again.
Snap. I’m up. The darkness fades, and of course you’re nowhere.
Oh how I despise you.
The inevitable choice, where neither option brings relief.
I despair and lay down once more.
AH-HA! There I hear you again!
Slap! I cannot take it anymore!
I thrust my open palm against your small evil body.
Death. Success. Take that mosquito.
